The shadow cast by Maupassant's "The Necklace"

A peaceful breakfast scene with flowers, bread, and fruit laid out on a table illuminated by the morning light.

This site is for those who await the Second Coming.

This is a spring where the Spirit of Christ quietly reveals the Word of God.

The blog is open to sheep to visit freely.

A place to gently quench the thirst of the heart.

And when you stand before the light,

The shadows lurking within us quietly reveal themselves.

Today's topic is Guy de Maupassant's "The Necklace."

This story symbolizes the dark side of human nature: vanity and pretense.

But what's important here is,

This is not about analyzing darkness.

To know darkness as darkness,

Because only those who have already been moved into the light remain.

The protagonist, Mathilde, wears a borrowed necklace,

I thought I had achieved a fleeting moment of brilliance.

However, that light did not illuminate her,

It dragged me into a long darkness.

But we can't laugh at her.

Vanity and pretense are just flimsy armor worn to hide weakness.

However, the Bible quietly states:

"Darkness could not prevail over light."

This is not a story about human effort,

This is a declaration of light itself.

Because light is "life," darkness is fundamentally incapable of winning.

Light is not a concept,

Christ, the life.

Only those who are absorbed into that light,

Knowing your own darkness as darkness,

I realize the poverty of my heart.

So Jesus said:

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for they will see the kingdom of God."

To see the Kingdom of God,

This means the spirit has been restored and placed in the realm of light.

Because we are in the light,

It makes you realize how much darkness had enveloped you.

That is not blame,

It's a sign that the light reached it.

Truth is,

It's not about denying darkness,

To know the light that came in the midst of darkness.

That light is Christ.
